Item Description...
A comprehensive verse-by-verse commentary for lay Bible students, fully highlighted by articles, maps, charts, and illustrations-all in one volume.
Clear and Comprehensive: Annotations by leading evangelical scholars don't dodge tough issues; alternative views are presented fairly, but commentators make their positions clear. Attractively Designed: Graphics appeal to the sound-bite generation and others who aren't traditional commentary readers. Interesting and Revealing: Hundreds of feature articles that provide additional information or new perspectives on a topic related to Bible background. Visually Appealing: Maps, drawings, and photos illuminate the commentary and visualize important information. General Editor, Earl Radmacher (Th.D.), of Western Conservative Baptist Seminary; Old Testament Editor, Ronald B. Allen (Th.D.), of Dallas Theological Seminary; New Testament Editor, H. Wayne House (Th.D., J.D.), of Michigan Theological Seminary and Simon Greenleaf School of Law

| A must have for the average Bible student Aug 1, 2006 |
I met this book by the first time when I had to be part of the team that translated it into Spanish. I have a few othe commentaries but none that useful and applicable to day to day life as this.
I have bought several copies at this time and I use it as the first reference for my studies. It also moved me to study Greek, Hebrew and Josephus works. | | | indespensible tool Jul 26, 2006 |
This is an excellent verse by verse narrative of the Bible. It has additional information about the context, in depth themes, etc. This book is also printed with the Bible intertwined, but I like having this commentary as a separate book (this is over 1700 pages as is). I have several of Nelson's biblical reference books and each one has been money well spent. | | | An Outstanding Bible Commentary, One You Can Trust Oct 3, 2005 |
Dr.Radmacher has done just an outstanding job in writing this concise but comprehensive commentary. I have been using The Nelson Study Bible, NJKV (now entitled the NJKV Study Bible, by Thomas Nelson)since it was first published in 1997. I teach Bible full-time at a Christian High School and hold degrees from Phila. Biblical Univer. and Talbot Theological Seminary, so I know good commentaries when I see them!! Dr. Radmacher's insights in both the study Bible and commentary have been such a vital resource for me that I urge all my students to purchase this study Bible ASAP. My Hebrew professor at PBU urged me to purchase the Nelson Study Bible and I have been using it and teaching from it for many years now. It is worth its weight in gold!!! | | | Great Commentary for the NKJV! Sep 20, 2005 |
First of all, be aware that this commentary is actually the study notes included with the Nelson NKJ Study Bible. The only difference between the two is that the Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Commentary has a few more notes than what is in the bible itself. But I've found the notes to be more exhaustive than what you will find in the NIV study bible which is very helpful if you're looking for additional information on a particular verse or verses.
The book is very well made with good paper quality. Designed to last you for many years. A great addition to your bible study library!

If you like a commentary separate from your Bible, then this will serve you well. However, the few pages that I was able to search using this site's "search inside" feature were nearly identical to the study notes in the Nelson Study Bible. I personally like to have Bible text and notes on the same page, and I have no way of knowing how much of this commentary is included in the Nelson Study Bible, which is my personal favorite. The "In Depth" articles, charts, maps and "Word Focus" studies (in the Bible) are excellent tools and whether you choose the commentary or study Bible will depend on your personal preference. | | Write your own review about Nelsons New Illustrated Bible Commentary S/S
