| As a student of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, the mountain of Greek was almost overwhelming. In addition, I am over 50, so I had not thought of a participle for over 30 years. Essentially, in my quest to learn two languages, my own again and Koine Greek from scratch, Dr. Bateman's workbook was an immense help in clearing the "fog" from the first year of Greek. Through a step-by-step process, Dr. Bateman leads the learner through the Johannine Epistles one phrase at a time. This does sound arduous, but with repetition, patient explanations, and marvelous practical applications, they indeed focus one on the task at hand. I continue to use this workbook in my extended Greek classes and will continue to use it. It is that concise. Plus, I now understand the participle. Thank you, Dr. Bateman. | | |  | Great Workbook! | As a former student of Dr. Herbert Bateman I can confidently say that his workbook is a first class inductive approach to New Testament exegesis. Bateman addresses exegetical categories as they come up in the text of the Johannine epistles. Although at times the parsing and redundant questions seem somewhat laborious at first and pointless later, the very notion that such questions become almost "second nature" validates the approach of the workbook.
